GSS or General Support Services employees are members of AUPE Local 95. We encourage you to look at the Chapters listing to determine which chapter you fall under and the contact info for your Chapter Executive. We welcome active involvement at all levels and hope you will choose to help make our Local stronger by your participation.

Please take a moment to find your Chapter Executive contact information and the contact names and numbers of the Union Stewards most accessible to your worksite.

Only a limited number of collective agreement have been printed as of June 2009, and will be distributed by Chapter Executives. Members will be asked to share these. If your area/unit has not received one byu end of July, please phone 816-7217 and leave a message for Marilyn Dorozio, Local 95 Chair, stating name and worksite where you would like it sent.

The new agreements with the negotiated changes are available on both the AUPE and the Alberta Health Services webpages. We cannot stress enough how important it is that you take the time to familiarize yourself with your rights. If you have any questions on issues such as vacation time, sick time, bereavement, incumbency pay, or any other of the other articles, or feel that you require a Union Steward to be present for any disciplinary meeting with management , please do not hesitate to contact your AUPE Chapter Executive or the AUPE Calgary office (531-8600) for your MSO (Membership Service Officer).

AUPE offers many education course and covers the cost of the course, as well as paid time off of work. A list of these courses can be found on the AUPE webpages or by contacting the Calgary Office at the number above.

There is also a need for Worksite contacts that serve as liaisons with the Stewards or the Chapter and Local Executives and the members and whose main funstion is to disseminate information and communicate news on event of interest to the membership.

Anyone who wishes to be a Union Steward will be required to fill out a nomination form from your Chapter Executive to allow you to take courses.

A final possibility for involvement is to become a Council Representative which meets on average 6 times a year and deals with the running of the Local. Elections for Council positions occur at the Chapter Annual General Meeting and have a term of 2-years. Council members can also be elected at Chapter meeting if there are vacancies to fill.

Once a year there is a 3-day Convention in Edmonton to vote on resolutions which would affect the running of the Union at large. 2009 is an election year where a new Executive (Presidents, Vice-Presidents and Sec-Treasurer) will be voted in.

Participation and communication are key to maintaining a string Local and Union. With the continued rstructuring changes within AHS, we need our members to know their rights and be protected and that takes every one of us!
