Local 59 is a local within the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees who represents all of the unionized former employees of the Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission.
The Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission cease to exist on April 1, 2009 when all of the services of AADAC and Employees were transitioned in to the province wide Alberta Health Services.
There has been decisions by the Alberta Labour Board which calls for transition of all of the former AADAC members to be moved in to the four other "functional bargaining units" . These decisions are presently being challenged by the Union and the process has been halted until all court challenges have been settled.
The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees remains the Union representing Local 59 members at this time.
