Alberta Seeks to hire new staff for mega jail
Derrick Karbashewski of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees said locating guard work stations in the open is dangerous. He said that could allow an inmate to grab a paper-clip that could be used to pick the lock on handcuffs.

Correctional officers want better safety measures
Local Chair: Derrick Karbashewski said his colleagues do not even carry batons. “That offender would have not put the public at risk, we would have been properly equipped to control that offender," he said.

Local 003 Supports UFCW Local 401
Local 003 Executive Officer Bill West attended a Sobey Picket today on behalf of Local 003. The members of UFCW Local 401 have been on strike for 41 days. Members from CUPE, AUPE, Iron workers, AFL, Telecommunications Workers Union were all present.

Slave Lake wildfire film ‘Loss and Hope’ debuts Oct. 5
AUPE commissioned film “Loss and Hope,” a 22-minute documentary about the Slave Lake wildfire that devastated the community on May 15, 2011 will debut at Northern Lakes College Lecture Theatre, 1201 Main Street SE in Slave Lake, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.
